Bilateral Meetings of the President Xhaferi
At the margins of the 137th Assembly of IPU, held in held in Sankt Petersburg from 14 to 18 October 2017, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Ernesto Cordero Arroyo, President of the of the Senate of Mexico and the Senator Ms. Gabriela Cuevas Baron, candidate for President of IPU.
The interlocutors expressed appreciation for the first official meeting of the Speakers and the opportunity to exchange opinions for deepening the cooperation between the two states.
The President Xhaferi concluded that aside from the great geographical distance, there is opportunity for strengthening the interparliamentary cooperation on multilateral level in the framework of the IPU. He informed that the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia has already established a Parliamentary group for Cooperation with the Parliaments from the Latin America and the Caribbean. In the same time the President underlined that the Delegation from the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia shall support the candidature of the Senator Cuvas Baron for President of IPU, considering her impressive biography and international experience, in the framework f IPU and beyond,
The President Xhaferi underlined that he abolishment of the visa regime for the citizens of Macedonia for Mexico will be of great importance for deepening the relations between the two states, considering that Macedonia has abolished the visas for Mexican citizens. The appointment of an Honorary Consul of Mexico to Macedonia will additionally facilitate the communication between the two states.
The President of the Senate of Mexico, Mr. Ernesto Cordero Arroyo underlined that the election of Ms. Gabriela Cuevas Baron for President of IPU is very important for Mexico and underlined that the Congress and the Government of Mexico supported her candidature. He agreed that the bilateral relations and cooperation between the Republic of Macedonia and Mexico have positive tendency and that there is space for further deepening of the cooperation. Mr. Arroyo invited the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi to officially visit Mexico.\The Senator Gabriela Cuevas Baron underlined that as Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Mexican Senate, she will stand for intensification of the cooperation between the two Parliaments and abolishment of the visas for the Macedonian citizens to Mexico. She expressed appreciation for the support of her candidature.
The Presidents of Parliament agreed that the promotion of the parliamentary diplomacy will open possibility for deepening the bilateral relations between the Republic of Macedonia and Mexico, on parliamentary level, but also in all areas.
