Press Statement of the President Xhaferi on the Occasion of the Ratification of the memorandum of Understanding
Distinguished representatives of the media,
Distinguished citizens,
It is my sincere pleasure to inform you that today, the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia ratified the Memorandum of Understanding with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth of Britain, thus renewing and continuing the cooperation with the United Kingdom and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.
The ratification of the Memorandum is another confirmation for the clearly expressed efforts for increasing the dynamic of the further development of the democracy and above all strengthening the function, the role but also the accountability of the Assembly as a legislative house whose composition is directly elected by the citizens.
The partnership with Westminster Foundation for Democracy is in direction of realization of the program “Support of the Parliamentary Reforms in Macedonia” and the Program shall be finances by the British Embassy at least until 31st March 2018.
The implementation of the program shall be monitored by a Steering Council comprised of: President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Secretary General of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, as well as representatives of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and the British Embassy, which underlines, not only the assistance for the MPs but also the assistance of the staff to more easily face the challenges of the daily tasks, especially in the areas of strategic planning, financial oversight, budgeting, but also openness and transparent work of the Assembly as institution.
