MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND THE DELEGATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA HEADED BY THE PRIME MINISTER BOJKO BORISOV 

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi had a meeting with the Delegation of the Republic of Bulgaria headed by the Prime Minister Bojko Borisov, in the framework of the two – day’s official visit of the Republic of Macedonia.

The Delegation was comprised of MPs from the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms. Dzema Grozdanova, Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee, Mr. Boris Vangelov, Chair of the Friendship Group with Macedonia and Mr. Stanislav Stanov. Ms. Tomislav Tuntev, Coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of SDSM and Mr. Ejup Alimi, Coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of DUI attended the Meeting. 

The President Xhaferi underlined that this day will be remembers as a boundary stone that marks the new page in the relations between the two states, due to the significant step forward made by the two states, which, through the ratification of the Agreement on Friendship, Good neighbourly Relations and Cooperation rounded the years long efforts; which, in his opinion will be strengthened in the future, due to the expressed support of the Republic of Bulgaria expressed in sharing the experience with the Republic of Macedonia in the Membership in NATO and EU. 

The President Xhaferi seized the opportunity and extended a official invitation to his colleague, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms. Dimitar Glavchev to visit the Republic of Macedonia in the first half of 2018, during the Presidency with the Council of the European Union, providing a new impulse for the efforts of the Republic of Macedonia to open accession negotiations with the EU.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Bojko Borisov, expressed pleasure from the realization of the meeting as well as the manner of ratification of the Agreement on Friendship, Good – neighbourly Relations and Cooperation, which should offer a new perspective in the relations, leaving the centuries and decades old misunderstandings between the states in the past.He underlined the consensual support of all MPs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria in the ratification of the Agreement, drafting of a special Declaration. The priority of the Republic of Macedonia is membership in NATO and EU as soon as possible, as well as prosperity and welfare of all citizens, but also strengthening the ties through the improvement of the infrastructure of Corridor 8, that connects these two states.

The interlocutors expressed conviction that bridges of joint efforts for continuation of the friendly relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria can be built through open and sincere dialogue alone.
