Meeting of the President Xhaferi with the UNICEF representative to Macedonia, Mr. Benjamin Perks 

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi held a meeting with the newly appointed representative of UNICEF to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Benjamin Perks. At the very beginning of the meeting, President Xhaferi wished welcome and successful and fruitful work during his mandate. 

Presdent Xhaferi stressed that the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia is ready to continue the cooperation with UNICEF in the framework of the Cooperation Memorandum, which enables for the interests of children to be taken account during the adoption of quality law solutions in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. 

The Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia is opened for cooperation with partner organisations of UNICEF, which work in the sphere of improvement of the rights and the status of the children in the society. 
For it's side, the representative of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, Mr Benjamin Perks underlined that UNICEF will support the reforms necessary for the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Republic of Macedonia, regarding the protection and the advancement of the rights of the children. 

During the meeting, the interlocutors talked about the urgent priorities of this international organisation in the country, related to the issues of the high degree of mortality of the children, the insufficient inclusion of the children in the preschool education compared to the European average, foster care for children without parents from the youngest age, emigration, as well as the condition of children from the Roma community in the country. 

At the end of the meeting, both interlocutors agreed that the debate regarding these issues should continue on a level of competent working bodies and through the possibility to organise public debates.
