Hundred Days from the Election of Mr. Talat Xhaferi as President of the Assembly

As we approach the 100th day from my election as President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, I feel the urge to address and inform the public on the activities which were realized so far, as well as on the activities in the future.

This is the first step in direction of achievement of increased transparency of the Legislative House, bringing it closer to the citizens.

From the regular activities envisaged with the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, the following have been realized so far:

  • Regular Coordinative Meetings with the Coordinators of the Political Parties (except VMRO - DPMNE), attended by a Government Representative as well;
  • 9 Plenary Sessions have been held, out of which 4 have not been finalized
  • The composition of the Working Bodies is established and they operate in full capacity;
  • Women Parliamentarians’ Club has been reactivated;
  • Delegations for multilateral cooperation have been established, and the process for finalization of the establishment of the Parliamentary Groups for Cooperation with the Parliaments from Other States is ongoing;
  • The Secretary General of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia is elected, providing the Assembly Staff to work in its full capacity, while the procedure for election of additional three Deputy Secretary Generals is ongoing;
  • 5 laws have been adopted;
  • A total of 39 international activities have been realized, out of which, 28 Meetings with the Plenipotentiary Resident and Non – Resident Ambassadors to the Republic of Macedonia from the neighbouring states, EU Member States, Asia, Mediterranean, as well as the heads of Delegations, Headquarters and Offices to the Republic of Macedonia;
  • At the beginning of my mandate I had a working meeting with the Ambassadors from the EU Member States;
  • Two working visits have been realized: one to Brussels and one at the Parliamentary Security Forum in Riga;
  • My first official visit as a President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia was to Montenegro, the newest member of NATO, which is our strategic determination as well;
  • We continue the international activities on all levels: participation in conferences, international events, as well as organization of such events in the Republic of Macedonia;
  • In the context of opening the Assembly to the NGO Sector, we have hosted 2 events so far: Regional Round Table of the West Minster Foundation and the Event for Protection of the Ohrid Region. I addressed at the Conference of MOST “Involved Citizens towards Accountable and Transparent Society”, at the Conference of   Societas civilis “Strengthening the Role of the Assembly – between Reforms and Political Will”,, as well as at the Round Table “The Assembly and the Civil Organizations”
  • In the context of the openness of the Parliament, I shall add, that there is an ongoing process for establishment of a new tool called E – Window, which will provide the citizens opportunity to apply for attending the Plenary Sessions. Also, there is a new tool that informs the public on the activities of the MPs named “Meetings”
  • In regard with “3-6-9 Plan”, as Assembly, we fully support the realization of the reform program of the Government for the benefit of our citizens;
  • Another topic, I believe is in the interest of all citizens, the local elections, I can state that if everything goes according to the planned dynamics, I shall ratify the Decision Scheduling the Elections on 6 August, thus, on 15 October the Local Elections shall be held.
  • Additionally, I inform you that the MPs’ vacation shall start on 4 August
