Participation of the member of parliament Mr. Hisen Xhemaili at the upcoming 18th Annual Session of the OSCE PA in Vilnius, Lithuania
Mr. Hisen Xhemaili, Member of the Delegation of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will participate at the upcoming 18th Annual Session of the OSCE PA that is going to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania from 29 June to 3 July 2009. Over 300 Members of Parliaments from 50 OSCE countries are expected to participate in the Session, whose main theme is “The OSCE: Addressing New Security Challenges.”
The Assembly’s First Committee will consider a report and a resolution on food security, while the Second and Third Committees will consider reports and resolutions about the financial and social consequences of the world’s financial crisis.
In addition, 24 supplementary items and resolutions will be debated, on topics such as: strengthening and reforming the OSCE, how to promote human rights and civil liberties in the OSCE area, energy security and cooperation, labour migration, water management, climate change, abolition of the death penalty, Afghanistan, and arms control.
Speakers at the Annual Session include: Mr. Arunas Valinskas, Speaker of Parliament of Lithuania, Mr. Joao Soares, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Mr. Vygaudas Usackas, Foreign Minister of Lithuania, Ms Dora Bakoyannis, Foreign Minister of Greece and Chairperson-in-Office of the OSCE, Mr. Lluis De Puig, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, OSCE Secretary General.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, created by the CSCE Summit in Paris in 1990, is the parliamentary dimension of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The OSCE PA’s primary task is to facilitate inter-parliamentary dialogue, which is an important aspect of the overall effort to meet the challenges of democracy throughout the OSCE area.
