MEETING OF THE CO-CHAIRMAN OF THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA – EUROPEAN UNION, MR. KENAN HASIPI, WITH THE MEMBER OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, MR. JORGO CHATZIMARKAKIS
The Co-Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee Republic of Macedonia - European Union (JPC RM-EU), Mr. Kenan Hasipi, met his colleague, the member of the European parliament, Mr. Jorgo Chatzimarkakis.
Mr. Hasipi said that he was honoured and pleased that this first meeting between them comes at a period when the Republic of Macedonia is marking the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Ohrid Framework Agreement. Mr. Hasipi assessed the Conference dedicated to the Framework Agreement as successful and expressed hope that the European spirit that could be felt at the Conference will be spread in the whole society.
The JPS Co-Chairpersons used this meeting to discuss the possible topics for the next, 9-th Meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee Republic of Macedonia - European Union, scheduled to take place on 3-4 November 2011 in Skopje.
The MEP Mr. Jorgo Chatzimarkakis proposed the cultural diversity, as an important European value; the effective use of decentralization; and the economic crisis as topics for some of the next JPC meetings.
Mr. Chatzimarkakis and Mr. Hasipi expressed gratitude to the former JPC chairpersons, as well as their satisfaction that both Delegations are giving their contribution for the fruitful and intensive cooperation, expressing hope that this positive atmosphere will continue to be present in the future work of the Joint Parliamentary Committee.
The Co-Chairmen emphasized that the common goals of the both sides is Republic of Macedonia to become part of the European family and start the accession negotiations with the European Union.
