MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND MEXICO AND BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA DELEGATIONS TO IPU

Within the 141. Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, held from 13 to 17 October 2019 in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia, the Delegation of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia to the IPU, led by President Talat Xhaferi, had a meeting today with the delegations of Mexico and Bosnia and Herzegovina to IPU.

At the meeting with the Mexico delegation, led by Laura Angélica Rojas Hernández, it was emphasized that, despite the great geographical distance, there were numerous opportunities for strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation between North Macedonia and Mexico, especially within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as well as bilaterally. There are initiatives between two countries for concrete cooperation, especially in the three areas of economy, tourism and culture, as well as a common interest in advancing the contractual legal framework.

The opening of the Honorary Consulate of the United Mexican States in Skopje was assessed as an important step in promoting the overall cooperation between the two countries. At the meeting, they also discussed the need for Mexico’s abolishment of visas for the citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia, so as to deepen the bilateral relations in all fields of common interest. President Rojas Hernández extended congratulations on the signing of the Prespa Agreement, which paved the way for the Euro-Atlantic integration of North Macedonia.

At the meeting with Nebojša Radmanović, Vice-chairman of the House of Representatives, and Nikola Špirić, Vice-chairmen of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, mutual satisfaction was expressed that the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries were confirmed by the intensified dynamics of high level visits between the two countries. It was emphasized that efforts to enhance cooperation in all areas of mutual interest were mutually beneficial, especially in the area of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as the exchange of experiences in this field. The need to strengthen the economic dimension in the bilateral cooperation and create favorable conditions for its smooth development was also emphasized.

The need to improve infrastructure connectivity in the region was also mentioned, as well as the importance of twinning more cities between North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At the end of the meeting it was concluded that there was room for improvement of parliamentary cooperation between the two friendly countries, with mutual visits of the Presidents of Parliaments and the Parliamentary Friendship and Cooperation Groups.
