MEETING OF PARLIAMENT SPEAKER XHAFERI WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE INSTITUTE FOR DEMOCRACY

The President of the Assembly, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, held a meeting today with representatives of the Institute for Democracy (IDSCS), who presented the project “Parliamentary watch” with the aim to strengthen public participation in debates and discussions, in an inclusive and open manner, in the parliamentary working bodies.

Parliament speaker Xhaferi reiterated his belief that the Assembly should be more open and cooperative with the citizens, NGOs and media, and emphasized the need to return the democratic principles in the institutions and the trust in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia.

Over the past few days the President of the Parliament, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, met with several representatives of foundations and institutes. He met with representatives and the Director of the Berghov Foundation, Luxshi Vimalarajah.

Berghov Foundation is committed to the support of stakeholders in conflict in their efforts to achieve sustainable peace through peace building and conflict transformation. This is achieved through the active support of peace processes, research of conflicts, political counseling and peace education.

Also, Mr. Xhaferi also met with the Director of the National Democratic Institute (NDI), Mr. Chris Henshaw and the Deputy Director, Mr. Robert Scott Heaslet.

At the meeting, both sides discussed about the cooperation of NDI with the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and agreed that it should proceed and deepen.

President of the Assembly, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, met with representatives of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy Westminster, Emil Atanasovski, Damir Neziri and Ivana Petkukjeska. 

The Westminster Foundation for Democracy – WFD - is the biggest British political foundation with a three-year budget of around 35 million EUR.

Apart from the main office of the foundation which is located in London, WFD has more than 25 offices worldwide, including in Macedonia.
