Meeting of the President Xhaferi and Ms. Marija Pejčinović Burić, Deputy prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs  

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi met Ms. Marija Pejčinović Burić, Deputy prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and Minister on Foreign and European Affairs, who is officially visiting the Republic of Macedonia. 

At the beginning of the meeting, the President Xhaferi expressed pleasure from the extraordinary and friendly relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Croatia, and paid respect to the strong support received by our state in the Euro – Atlantic integrations, which we expect to be finalized with a full - fledged membership in NATO at the oncoming Summit, as well as positive progress Report by the European Commission, which will contain unconditioned recommendation for opening accession negotiations.  

The President of the Assembly, in the introduction, informed the Deputy Prime Minister that as a President of the Assembly, he pays great attention to the ongoing reform processes and the role of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia in the creation of balanced dialogue between the governance and the opposition for the adoption of the strategic laws, as well as the promotion and revitalization of the parliamentary diplomacy as a significant form of representative role of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia internationally.  

In regard with the economic cooperation, the President Xhaferi underlined that it should be further promoted, especially in the area of tourism, which is traditionally beneficial branch for the two sides. In the context of the ratification of the Agreements for promotion of the mutual trade and economic ties, the President underlined that the ratification thereof by the two Parliaments will facilitate the transition in efficient legal instruments.  

Ms. Pejčinović Burić expressed appreciation for the meeting and the opportunity to exchange opinions and share the Croatian experience in the area of European integration. Additionally she underlined the significant role of the Parliament in the pre - accession dialogue as well as the importance of constructive and consensual approach to the process of accession, something that was achieved by all political parties of the Republic of Croatia - at the very beginning agreeing via consensus for proactive relations with the Euro – Atlantic integration of the state, since this process is not integration only, it is also transition of the overall social life. The full fledged membership in NATO and EU means building stabile state, state where the foreign investors will have strong interest to invest in, which will lead to development of the state in general.  

The interlocutors shared views on the improvement of the legal framework in the two states in regard with the Croatian and Macedonian minority, as well as further promotion of the bilateral relations and cooperation between the Parliaments.
