MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND THE ASSEMBLY DELEGATION TO THE IPU ASSEMBLY WITH THE SWISS DELEGATION TO THE IPU 

The Delegation of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia to the IPU, headed by Mr. Talat Xhaferi, President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, within the framework of participation at the 138 Assembly of the Inter-parliamentary Union in Geneva, Swiss Confederation, had a working lunch with the Swiss delegation to the IPU, headed by Mr.Andrea Caroni, head of the Delegation.  

The occasion for the working lunch was the two delegations to inform each other and exchange information on the project for technical parliamentary support of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, funded by the Swiss Confederation and supported by the Federal Assembly of Switzerland.  

The head of the Swiss Delegation to the IPU, Mr. Andrea Caroni, underlined that the project aims to provide technical and institutional support to the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia in its efforts to further improve the internal functioning, oversight and legislative capacities, as well as to promote transparency and accountability to citizens. The successful implementation of the Project shall contribute to the adoption of more qualitative laws and better use of public resources, that is, to additionally strengthen the role of the Assembly in relation to the executive branch. He underlined that the idea for this project originated right from the Swiss Delegation in the IPU. 

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, at the same time the head of the Delegation to the IPU, expressed confidence that the Project "The Parliament Support Programme" will provide  a more efficient and inclusive functioning of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, that is, overall institutional enhancement, promotion of its legislative and oversight function and providing  to the citizens an appropriate approach to the work of the Assembly through enhanced transparency and accountability.  He expressed his gratitude on the donation funded by the Swiss taxpayers and underlined that the entire project will be followed by the Governing Council and Advisory Council. Noting that according to the planned dynamics the preparatory phase will begin on 1st July 2018, President Xhaferi invited the Swiss colleagues to visit the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia on that day and to be informed on the implementation thereof. 

At the working lunch, interlocutors exchanged views on the bilateral relations and cooperation between the Republic of Macedonia and the Swiss Confederation and in the future to hold meetings in the framework of the Inter-parliamentary Union Assemblies.
