Meeting of the President Xhaferi and the Minister on Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Greece, Nikos Kotzias
The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, in the framework of the official visit to Macedonia, met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Greece, Mr. Nikos Kotzias to the Republic of Macedonia. The MPs Irena Stefoska and Afrim Gashi attended the Meeting.
The President Xhaferi expressed pleasure from the meeting as well as expectation for intensification of the meetings on all levels in the future, including the parliamentary level. The Republic of Greece is our Southern neighbour with whom we have been through many challenges in the past decades, in particularly crucial moments, the Republic of Macedonia was actively supported through the ratification of the Agreement on Stabilization and Association; in granting the candidate status for membership in EU and the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU Member States and our efforts for accomplishing the criteria for membership in EU and NATO.
The Minister Kotzias underlined that he is honoured to be guest in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and underlined that the Republic of Greece desires stability in the Republic of Macedonia and supports its Euro – Atlantic integration. As the oldest Member of EU and NATO, Greece provides its experience and experts to assist the state in the reform agenda. Now is the time to achieve compromise for the open issues, that hold us in the prison of history, since in this manner, all fields can be opened for cooperation, including the intensification of the parliamentary cooperation with the colleagues from the Parliament of Greece.
The interlocutors agreed that the measures for building trust are implemented in many areas, and underlined that more attention can be paid to the development of projects in the area of culture, as a bridge of connection between the states and the citizens, who continuously cherish close and friendly relations.
