CEI – Bridge of Macro regional and Different strategies 

Today, in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative (PD CEI) holds the regular Session on Relevance of EU Macro-Regional Strategies as an Opportunity for Cross-Border Cooperation among CEI Member States: the Role of Parliaments.  

The Session was opened by the host- Head of the Macedonian Delegation to PD CEI, Mr. Aleksandar Nikoloski, who, on behalf of the Members of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia welcomed the Delegations from the Parliaments of Austria, Italy, Poland, Czech, Hungary, Serbia and Ukraine.  

Mr. Trajko Veljanoski, President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Vladimir Peshevski, and Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia in charge of Economic Issues of the Republic of Macedonia and Mr. Erick Csernovitz, CEI Deputy Secretary General gave introductory speeches. Also, Ms. Dragana Kiprijanovska, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia and Mr. Antonio Miloshoski, Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee addressed at the Session.  

The Vice President Miloshoski, inter alia, underlined that the Republic of Macedonia fulfils the criteria and should join the Ionic – Adriatic strategy as soon as possible, contributing and becoming constructive partner of the region. He also underlined that CEI will reach its maximum when its members, including Macedonia will become part of the European Union.

 The participants debated and exchanged constructive opinions aiming to strengthen the relations between the Member – States of CEI, as bridge of macro regions and different strategies.  

CEI is the oldest regional organization, established in 1989, gathering 18 states as its members. For the Republic of Macedonia, which is a full – fledged member since 1993 and is a member under its constitutional name, this is the second Chairmanship in the period of 13 years. 

At the end of the Session, a Final Declaration was adopted.
