EU Summit in Brussels

The EU Summit will be held on 29th and 30th October in Brussels. The EU leaders will discuss global warming and the future of the Lisbon Treaty, which cannot enter into force until it is ratified by all the EU member countries. The only signature missing is that of Czech President Václav Klaus.

The agenda of the EU heads of state and government will also include the institutional changes, especially the planned introduction of the position of Permanent President of the European Council and an EU Foreign Minister, as well as the management of the economic crisis and unemployment, including strengthened control of the financial markets.

Other topics include illegal immigration in the Mediterranean and an EU strategy for the Baltic Sea region.
