October Plenary Session in Brussels

The main topic of the debate of the political groups from the European Parliament, held on 7th and 8th October, with the President of the European Commission Mr. José Manuel Barroso and the President of the Council - the Prime Minister of Sweden Mr. Fredrik Reinfeld, will be the results of the Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. 

The freedom of information in Italy will be subject to debate of the members of the European Parliament and the Commission. The European Parliament will vote on a resolution on the freedom of information at its session of 19-22 October in Strasbourg.

The MEPs will also discuss the effects of the financial crisis and the creation of a new body for evaluation of the measures undertaken by the EU and the Member States. The Decision on establishing the new committee consisted of 45 members will be on the agenda for voting tomorrow. The Committee is expected to complete its work within one year.  

In an effort to assist the poorest countries hit hardest by the global crisis, the MEPs to will vote on a Resolution on the effects of the global financial and economic crisis on developing countries and reforms of the international financial institutions and other measurements.
