The Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia met H.E. Mr. Gerardo Suarez Alvarez, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Macedonia

The Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Ms. Svetlana Jakimovska, had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Gerardo Suarez Alvarez, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Macedonia.

The Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia said that the development of the friendly relations with Cuba, as well as the overall cooperation between the two countries, on bilateral and on multilateral level, is very important for the Republic of Macedonia. The cooperation on multilateral level, especially in the framework of the UN is good, and confirmation for this was the adoption of the Resolution of the UN General Assembly on the necessity for abolishment of the USA economic sanctions towards Cuba.

Both agreed that there are various opportunities for bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially for economic cooperation. Also, there is an interest for development of the relations between the two countries in the areas of common interest, such as culture, education and medicine.

Besides contacts in the framework of the IPU meetings, the cooperation between the Parliaments of the Republic of Macedonia and Cuba is unsatisfactory, and Vice-President Jakomovska welcomed the Ambassador’s initiative for establishing inter-parliamentary cooperation, as well as for establishing parliamentary groups for cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
