Mr. Talat Xhaferi, Head of the Delegation of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, is participating at the NATO PA Annual Session, held in Warsaw, Poland, from 12 to 15 November 2010

Some 340 parliamentarians from the 28 NATO member states and the countries with the status associate members, as well as a considerable number of parliamentary observers, discussed the current international security issues. The debates were held in the framework of the 5 Committees of the NATO PA (Political, Defence and Security, Science and Technology, Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security, and Committee on Economics and Security).

Mr. John Tanner - President of the NATO PA, Mr. Grzegorz Schetyna - Marshal of the Polish Sejm and acting President of Poland, Mr.  Daniel Tusk - Prime Minister of Poland, as well Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen - NATO Secretary General, addressed the Session.

The Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security reviewed the Report on the Western Balkans, 15 years after Dayton: Achievements and Prospects. The Report gives an objective description of the events in the Region, analyzing the main setbacks for its full normalization. The Report pays special attention to some specific issues, such as the case of the Republic of Macedonia whose applications for NATO and EU membership, despite the successful implementation of the reform process, are still not on the agenda because of the unresolved name issue.

Dr. Karl A. Lamers (Germany), current Chairman of the Political Committee, was unanimously elected as the new President of the NATO PA for a two year mandate.
