Recommendations Adopted on 8th Meeting on joint parliamentary committee RM-EU

 The Delegation from the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, comprised of The Delegation from the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia comprised of  Mr. Alaksandar Spasenovski- Head of the Delegation from the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia to the parliamentary Committee for Stabilization and Association (Co-chairman of this Committee), Mr. Rafis Aliti, Vice President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia; Ms. Slavica Grkovska, Deputy head of the Delegation; Ms. Sonja Mirakovska, Member of the Delegation and Mr. Vladimir Gjorchev, Deputy Member of the Delegation participated on the 8th Meeting of the Joint parliamentary Committee- the Republic of Macedonia - EU held on 29 and 30 November 2010, in the European Parliament, Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium.

On the second day of the Meeting, Mr. Vasko Naumovski, Vice Prime Minisetr of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia addressed before the participants and informed them on the present situation of the Euro-integrative process in the Republic of Macedonia. His address was followed by an exchange of opinions and debate on certain issues for which the Vice Prime Minister provided answers.   

Many issues regarding the relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the European Union and the MPs from the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and the European Parliament were received during the Meeting and the MPs had an opportunity to debate on the issues regarding: the recent development in the civil society, the participation of the citizens in the decision making process, the situation in the public administration, judiciary, prison system, attempts in the fight against fraud and corruption, transport corridors in Western Balkan and EU, management of the EU funds, economic and financial situation and the reforms taken by the Government regarding the obligations taken with the Membership in the European Union. 

The debate resulted in adoption of Final Recommendations, which welcomed the fact that the governing and oppositional parties, with wide support of the NGO sector, are unified in their efforts to comply with the Copenhagen Criteria and the conditions from the Stabilization and Association Agreement, in context of pre-accession negotiations with EU. The MPs welcomed the achieved progress in the visa liberalization initiating the functioning of the integrated cross-border management system. In the same time, the constructive approach of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia in the adoption of the necessary laws and the modernisation of the work of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia especially the adoption of the amendments of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia was welcomed. 

The Joint Parliamentary Committee- the Republic of Macedonia - EU welcomed the continuous progress of the reforms in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, judiciary, public administration and protection of minorities. The anti-corruption legislative framework following GRECO recommendations was welcomed. 

The Joint Parliamentary Committee- the Republic of Macedonia - EU reaffirmed the importance of well integrated system of transport corridors and, in this direction, welcomed the inclusion of the Republic of Macedonia in the multinational Balkan Railway Project, Cargo 10. 

The MPs recognized and supported the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in the establishment of the necessary structures for decentralized management of IPA and encouraged the European Commission to adopt a Decision on transfer the management of IPA funds to national authorities. 

In the end of the Meeting, the two Co-Chairmen, Mr. Spasenovski and Mr. Chatzimarkakis held a brief press conference where the journalists had an opportunity to pose questions for the topics of the debates during the past two days.
