MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MR. TRAJKO VELJANOSKI, WITH THE EU COMMISSIONER FOR ENLARGEMENT AND NEIGHBORING POLICY, MR. STEFAN FULE

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski received the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighboring Policy, Mr. Stefan Fule.

Mr. Veljanoski pointed out that the Republic of Macedonia and its institutions continue with the reforms necessary for EU Membership. “Although Macedonia did not receive the date for opening negotiations, we are working seriously responsibly on our integration in the European family, to which we belong. This is our obligation towards the 92% of the citizens who support the EU and NATO membership of Macedonia. At the same time, we continue the negotiations under the auspices of the UN and Mr. Nimitz in order to find a solution for the dispute over the name issue, which was imposed by Greece. The resolution of this issue is in the interest of the Republic of Macedonia, but it is also important for the stability and the integration of the region and European in general.

The Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighboring Policy, Mr. Stefan Fule, underlined that Macedonia has made significant steps forward in the process of EU Integration.

He said that he was convinced that Macedonia will continue with the reforms, adding that the European Commission, i.e. EU institutions see Macedonia as their partner, since we are the two sides of the same project - integration of Macedonia in the EU. Regarding the bilateral dispute, he said that he believes that now is the right moment to resolve this issue. He concluded by saying that the European Commission is doing everything it can to support both sides in finding a solution for the problem.
