The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski welcomed the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski welcomed the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland. The President Veljanoski, during the Meeting underlined that the Republic of Macedonia and its institutions continue the reforms needed for our membership in the European Union and the European Institutions

Our Assembly and our delegation in the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe are prepared to provide full and engaged contribution in the achievement of the tasks during  the Macedonian Chairmanship with the Council of Europe. Last year we were one of the countries which have marked the 60th Anniversary of the Council of Europe through ceremonial session, debates round tables, which included parliamentarians, diplomats, scientists and NGOs. In this way we have contributed in  the increased presence and participation of the public in the work of the Council of Europe. In the framework of the Council of Europe we are in the final phase of the post-monitoring dialogue which is being held for the past years, and we have overcame very obligation of ours for our accession in the Council of Europe.- states the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski.
 
The President of the Assembly, Mr. Veljanoski underlined that in May we are expected to organize a session of the Standing Committee, as a first international parliamentary meeting organized in our country, which will include parliamentarians from 47 countries. 

We continue the negotiations under the auspices of the UN and Mr. Nimitz to find a solution for the name issue imposed by Greece. The solution of the name issue and our membership in EU is significant for the stability and integration of the region and for Europe in general- underlines the President Veljanoski. 

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland  underlined that he has no doubts that the Macedonian Chairmanship will be successful and quality. 

Your state has potential, you have successful reforms, you are entering the negotiating phase with EU, you do not have visa regime, you own credibility of a democratic country and your Chairmanship is during a very significant and important period for the Council of Europe- states Mr. Jagland.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland  underlined that prior to the taking of the Chairmanship he is aware of the sensitivity of the name issue and expressed his hope that it will not shadow other important tasks and duties during the Chairmanship of the Republic of Macedonia with the Council of Europe.
