Meeting of the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia Mr. Trajko Vejlanoski and the Delegation from the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia with their Canadian colleagues

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia Mr. Trajko Vejlanoski and the Delegation from the Assembly met with the members of the Standing Committee on International Trade in the Canadian House of Commons.

The Canadian Members of Parliament expressed desire to meet the members of the Macedonian Delegation with the aim of receiving more information about the current developments and the situation regarding investment in the Republic of Macedonia. At the meeting that was opened for the media the Canadian Parliamentarians were interested in the level of trade between the two countries and the possibilities for increasing the cooperation. The members of the Committee also showed interest in the current situation and the potential of the energy resources in the Republic of Macedonia.

At the meeting President Vejlanoski pointed out that although the Republic of Macedonia is a small country, because of its position and the measures that the current Government is undertaking it is very attractive for investments. The President of the Assembly informed the Canadian Members of Parliament that the state institutions are focused on creating favourable business climate, encouragement of the competition, international cooperation in the field of trade, and promotion of investments.

Regarding the level of trade between the Republic of Macedonia and Canada, he said that in the last three years the cooperation is on the increase, but the deficit is still on the part of Macedonia and efforts should be made to improve the situation. He expressed conviction that this can be achieved with more presentations and better promotion of the Republic of Macedonia as a favourable destination for investments, especially for the Canadian businessmen of Macedonian origin, in order to enable direct cooperation and contacts between the Macedonian and the Canadian business sector.

President Veljanoski urged his Canadian colleagues to lobby with the Canadian companies to invest in the Republic of Macedonia, pointing out that the economy is the field that brings progress and benefits for the citizens, and that they as politicians have the obligation to facilitate economic growth in the interest of the people.
