IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA TO CONTINUE ACCOMPLISHING THE CRITERIA FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE EUROPEAN UNION 

The Chair of the Committee on European Issues, Mr. Petar Pop Arsov and the Co- chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee the Republic of Macedonia- EU, Mr. Aleksandar Spasenovski had a meeting with the Newly Appointed Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Macedonia, H.E. Peter Sorensen. 

The Chairman of the Committee on European Issues seized the opportunity to welcome the Ambassador Sorensen and expressed his preparedness for cooperation, friendship and professionalism in the interest of approximation of the Republic of Macedonia to the European Union. 

Mr. Petar Pop Arsov referred to the competences and the activities of the Committee, stating that the Committee is aн active institutional entity in the Euro-integrative processes of the Republic of Macedonia. 

He underlined that the Republic of Macedonia is focused on the Membership in the European Union and maximizes the efforts to surpass the differences about the name issue. In this context he underlined that the reforms in the Republic of Macedonia are being implemented in direction of accomplishment of the criteria for membership in the European Union, as well as implementation of the European values, standards and principles in the everyday lives of the Macedonian citizens. 

The Co-chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee the Republic of Macedonia- EU, Mr. Spasenovski, welcomed the Ambassador Sorensen and underlined the good cooperation with the previous Ambassador in the process of European Integration and the activities of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. 

Regarding the aspirations for EU Membership, Mr. Spasenovski underlined that there is a wide consensus in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia as well as in the whole state, among the political parties for accomplishment of the European goals and shared responsibility among the political entities of the Assembly who are chairing the bodies dealing with the Euro-integration process and who belong to the governing, oppositional parties as well as among the ethnic communities in the state. 

The Ambassador Sorensen expressed appreciation for the meeting and the introduction of the MPs which are chairing the committees on European Issues in the Assembly as a essential partner in the European Integration process. He underlined that for the Republic of Macedonia is very important to continue the accomplishment of the criteria for Membership in the European Union, which are not easy, in order to reach the chapters in the negotiation process for EU Membership, also the Ambassador stated that he will assist the country in this process. 

Finally, the participants express their unreserved openness for future intensive and close cooperation in this area.
