PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI ATTENDS THE TWO-DAY CONFERENCE OF THE SPEAKERS OF THE PARLIAMENTS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

On an invitation from the Speaker of the Belgian House of Representatives Mr. André Flauhaut and the Speaker of the Belgian Senate Mr. Danny Pieters, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia Mr. Trajko Veljanoski is taking part at the two-day Conference of Speakers of the EU Parliaments.

The Conference is attended by 44 speakers of the lower and upper houses of parliament from the European countries.

The first part of the Conference will be focused on the parliamentary scrutiny of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), as well as on the communication strategies of parliamentary chambers and their role in the oversight of the European Area of Freedom, Security and Justice, with special emphasis on the oversight of the intelligence services and on their role in the monitoring of Europol.

On Wednesday the participants will discuss the global economic crisis and the ways of overcoming its consequences.

In his address, President Veljanoski spoke about the communications strategies of the parliaments, the public opinion and the media.

President Veljanoski and the other Head of Delegations will also have a meeting with H.E. King Albert II of Belgium.
