parliamentary seminar on “Transport AND infrastructure in regional context”

The European Parliament, on 12 and 13 July 2011, in Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium organised a Parliamentary Seminar on “Transport and Infrastructure in Regional Context”. Delegations from the Parliaments of the Western Balkan, MEPs as well as Representatives of the European Committee and other European institutions and agencies attended this Seminar.

The MPs: Ilija Dimovski, Panche Orcev, Hajrula Misini and Imer Aliu attended this Seminar as Representatives of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. 

The Seminar was dedicated on issues on the transport policy in international context, activities of the European Parliament regarding the transport and  infrastructure, the progress of the proposed Agreement on Transport Community with the Western Balkan, the aspects of transport and infrastructure of the European Union in the Region of Danube and territorial cooperation.

Every delegation, through a brief presentation, had an opportunity to refer to the experiences of the transport and infrastructural connections between the counties of Western Balkan and the European Union, in context of the current projects and infrastructure in each state.

Mr. Ilija Dimovski addressed on behalf of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and the Delegation. He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to discuss on such an important topic, for the Republic of Macedonia and for all the countries of the Western Balkan as well as for the European Union- since this is the area in which the European Commission in the last year’s Report noted a positive progress. 

In this direction, Mr. Dimovski elaborated the Priorities of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, drafted in coordination with the European Commission in the area of transport infrastructure, finalization of Corridor 10 by the end of 2015, modernization of the railway infrastructure through the Corridor 8 by 2013 and Corridor 10, by the end of 2015 as well as modernization of the Skopje Railway Station in accordance with the modern European standards.

As part of the regional cooperation, he welcomed the Cargo 10 Project, which the Republic of Macedonia is included in, as a successful initiative for transport policy of the counties from the Region, which will contribute in lowering the costs and time for transport of goods and services.

Mr. Dimovski underlined the proactive role of the Republic of Macedonia in the area of transport networks, through an active participation in the regional and European initiatives, such as the ISIS Program for Implementation of the Single European Sky regulations in South East Europe, the initiative for ratification of the Agreement on Transport Community and Cooperation in the Framework of the Transport Observatory in SEE (CEETO).
