THE COMMITTEE ON RELATIONS AMONG THE COMMUNITIES CONTRIBUTES TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MULTICULTURAL AND MULTIETHNIC DIMENSION OF THE MACEDONIAN SOCIETY

The Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Relations among the Communities Ms. Marinela Tuseva met with Ms. Barbara Prammer, President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria. The relations among the communities in the Republic of Macedonia and the strengthening of the political dialogue through the Committee were the main topic of discussion.

The members of the Committee: Ms. Silvana Boneva, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, Mr. Orhan Ibraimi and Mr. Kenan Haispi, H.E. Dr. Thomas Michael Baer - Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Republic of Macedonia, and H.E. Gjorgi Filipov - Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to the Republic of Austria, attended the meeting.

Ms. Tuseva informed the guest about the role and composition of the Committee, emphasizing that with its work the Committee has demonstrated its responsibility regarding the realization of the rights of the members of the national communities. In this way the Committee gives its contribution to the development of the multicultural and multiethnic dimension of the Macedonian society and of the coexistence of all citizens, as well as to the strengthening of the parliamentary democracy in the country.

The members of the Committee expressed appreciation for the support Austria is giving to the Republic of Macedonia, and that said that they expect that the position of the Committee will be strengthened in the future.

The President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria talked about the positive examples in the Republic of Austria regarding the realization of the individual and collective rights of the ethnic communities, in line with the Law on Ethnic Communities that is being regularly amended and updated.

At the end of the meeting Ms. Tuseva welcomed the support of Ms. Barbara Prammer and expressed gratitude for her interest in the situation in the country, as well as for her visit to the Parliament and the meeting with the Committee on Relations among the Communities.
