PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI WELCOMED THE NEWLY-APPOINTED HEAD OF THE LIAISON OFFICE OF THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC TO THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA - MR. THEOCHARIS LALAKOS

At the beginning of the meeting the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia expressed satisfaction from the meeting and wished Mr. Lalakos successful work during his mandate as Head of Mission. Mr. Trajko Veljanoski regretted the lack of cooperation between the two countries on parliamentary level and expressed hope that direct parliamentary cooperation will be established soon.

He pointed out that parliamentary democracy is a strong and increasingly useful instrument for intensification of the cooperation and for resolving the open issues between the countries.

President Veljanoski pointed out that the Conference of Speakers of Parliament of the EU member and candidate countries, which will be held in April in Cypress, would be an excellent opportunity to meet his Greek colleague.

President Veljanoski added that he expects that he will also meet his colleague from Greece at the Conference of the Speakers of Parliament of the countries participating in the South East European Cooperation Process, which will be held in May in Ohrid in the framework of the Macedonian Chairmanship-in-Office of the SEECP.

Ambassador Lalakos expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and said that he will convey the messages to the President of the Greek Parliament.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Veljanoski expressed the openness of the Macedonian Assembly for cooperation and the readiness of his Cabinet for direct communication and cooperation with the Liaison Office of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Macedonia.
