RESULTS OF THE REGULAR TELEPHONE INQUIRY ON THE PERCEPTION OF THE CITIZENS ON THE WORK OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA (EXECUTED ON 17 AND 18 JANUARY 2013)

The regular telephone inquiry on the perception of the public for the work of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, that this year was executed on 17 and 18 January 2013. the telephone inquiry that has been executed for the 6th time in the framework of the Memorandum on Cooperation with the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy on Strengthening the Capacities of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. The inquiry was executed by the Democracy Institute “Societas Civilis” Skopje. The inquiry included 1.123 respondents from the whole territory of the Republic of Macedonia, inquired via telephone on 17 and 18 January 2013. The inquiry is executed through a questionnaire made out of the standard 16 questions plus the demographic questions. 

Considering that by the end of 2012, precisely on 24 December 2012 and the days prior the 24 December, events took place, which can significantly influence the perception of the citizens on the work of the Assembly, the poll was supplemented with two immediately connected questions on the perception of the events from 24 December 2012.

The first question generally examines the perception of the citizens whether the order in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, regardless of the prominent political differences among the MPs should be respected; while the second question concretely evaluates the perception of the citizens in a situation of disrespect of the order, in other words, whether, in situation when the order of the plenary session is disobeyed, the President of the Assembly should escort out the MPs disturbing the work.

Regarding the gender, out of 1123 respondents, 521(46, 4%) are male and 602 (53, 6%) female.
According to the ethnic belonging- 723 (64, 4%) respondent are from Macedonian Community, 284 (25, 3%) from the Albanian, 44 (3, 9%) Turks, 30 (2, 7%) Roma, Vlach, Serbian, Bosnian and other ethnic belonging. 
Regarding the age the 1123 respondent are from 18 to 60+ years of age, out of which 398 (35,5%) are 60+ years of age, 226 (20,2%) 50-59,176 (15,7%) are 18-29 years of age.
Regarding the education- 5 respondents have no education, 64 have not finished primary school, 228 (20,3%) had primary education, 544 (48,5%) high, 54 (4,8) college , 220 (19,6%) university educations, 7 (,6%) postgraduate level of education. 352 (31,3%) respondents live in the village, 236 (21,0%) live in a small town, 280 (24,9%) live in a city and 255 (22,7%) live in Skopje.
Regarding the profession of the respondents: 204 (18, 2%) are unemployed, 295 (26, 3 %) - pensioners, 72(6, 4%) - professional workers, 41 (3, 7%) agriculture/ forestry/fishery workers and 83 (7, 4 %) answered “other”.
All six Election Units (EU) were covered with the poll; the division is as follows EU1 175 (15,6%), EU2 219 (19,5%), EU3 167 (14,9%), EU4 179 (15,9%),and EU5 183 (16, 3%) и EU6 201 (17.9%).
