THE ROLE OF THE EUROPEAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEES IN ACHIEVING THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATION CRITERIA

The Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia Mr. Hajrula Misini participated at the 7th Conference of the Parliamentary Committees on European Integration/Affairs of the States Participating in the Stabilization and Association Process in South East Europe (COSAP), that was held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The participants of the Conference discussed the European Parliament Resolution on enlargement. The Strategic interests of European Union enlargement and the role of the European affairs committees in achieving the European integration criteria and the new concept of pre-accession assistance - IPA II were also among the topics of the Conference.

Mr. Misini was moderator at the session on the transformation force of the European integration process - positive experiences and their applicability in the states in the region. He emphasized that every analysis on the reasons for integration of Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Kosovo and Turkey in the European Union from historical, geographical, political, economic and social aspect would result in one conclusion - we are part of Europe and inevitably, one day we will all be part of the European Union. The basic goals of integration of our countries could be defined in the direction of development of the political system and market economy, faster social and economic development, strengthening and intensification of the cooperation with the EU member states, consolidation of our positions on international level, and promotion of our national identities as peaceful countries committed to the integration processes.

The Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia Mr. Hajrula Misini raised the initiative for inclusion of Kosovo and Turkey in COSAP as equal participant countries in the Stabilization and Association Process in South East Europe. The participants of the Conference agreed to discuss this initiative at the next COSAP meeting that will be held in Skopje.

At the conclusion of the Conference, the participants adopted unanimously a Joint Statement.
