Continuous and selfless support from Albania for the Membership of Macedonia in NATO and EU  

The Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for Cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Albania had a meeting with Mr. Ilir Meta, President of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania.  

The Chair of the Group, Mr. Orhan Ibraimi, as well as the Members: Mr. Rexhail Ismaili, Mr. Ivan Ivanov, Mr. Stojan Milanov and Mr. Dimitar Stevanandzija attended the meeting.  

The Chairman Ibraimi welcomed the President Meta and expressed appreciation for the meeting, characterizing the relations between the two neighbouring states as good and friendly, connected through the Albanian community in Macedonia and the Macedonian Community in Albania.  

The attendees exchanged opinions on the current political development in their states, the possibilities for deepening the economic cooperation, as well as the promotion of the overall relations.   

Mr. Ibraimi informed Mr. Meta on the boycott of the opposition, the implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, as well as the Constitutional Amendments, which are on the agenda of today’s plenary session.  

The President Meta expressed appreciation for the visit and called on intensification of the cooperation between the Parliamentary Groups of the two parliaments, drafting a joint agenda aiming to constantly monitor the relations, intensify the meetings and joint projects.  

He underlined that the development and the construction of Corridor 8, i.e. the railway connection of Albania and Macedonia is important for the two states and the region.  

In regards with the membership of Macedonia in NATO and EU, the support from Albania remains continuous and selfless.  

At the end of the meeting, Mr. meta invited the Parliamentary Group to officially visit Albania and to continue the discussion on many topics that were tabled today.
