MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND MS ROSSANA DUDZIAK, UN RESIDENT COORDINATOR IN THE REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA

At today's meeting, the President of the Assembly, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, and the UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of North Macedonia, Ms. Rossana Dudziak exchanged information and ideas on how to deepen the cooperation between the UN bodies and the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia.

President Xhaferi emphasized that our membership in the UN has since 1993 been based on respect for the basic principles and postulates of the UN Charter. He also stressed that our communication with UN bodies has been continuously strengthened by active engagement in and contribution to all specialized agencies, programmes and funds of the UN system. In this regard, President Xhaferi expressed his gratitude for the contribution of the UN agencies such as UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Women and others, with whom we have established close cooperation aimed at improving employment, social inclusion, environmental development and gender equality.

In the framework of this cooperation, there is a Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men in the Assembly for the Republic of North Macedonia, working together with the Parliamentary Institute and UN Women on gender responsive budgeting, President Xhaferi stated.

He also stressed that in terms of respect for human rights, North Macedonia is and will be consistent in their respect, as a country with a strong European orientation committed to peace and stability and a country aspiring to membership in the EU.

Ms. Rossana Dudziak, the UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of North Macedonia, thanked for the opportunity to meet with the President of the Assembly, Mr. Talat Xhaferi to discuss cooperation in the coming period.

She paid more attention to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as to the Strategy for cooperation under this Agenda with the institutions of the Republic of North Macedonia for the period 2021 - 2025, as two important UN strategic documents. In the framework of this cooperation with the institutions of the Republic of North Macedonia, Ms. Dudziak listed 17 important areas of cooperation that need to be intensified in the forthcoming period and which are important for the UN.

At the end of the meeting, the two interlocutors agreed that the UN agencies would continue to cooperate intensively with the working bodies and committees of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia.
