MEETING OF PRESIDENT XHAFERI WITH THE SPANISH AMBASSADOR GARCIA
The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, today met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of North Macedonia, H.E. José Luis Lozano García.
President Xhaferi, expressing satisfaction with the meeting welcomed the current cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Skopje and wished him successful work during his term. He noted the friendly relations between the two countries and expressed hope that the desired dynamics of meetings at the parliamentary level will intensify in the future. In that context, he informed the Ambassador about the invitation sent to his fellow, Speaker Lamaña, for an official visit to the Republic of North Macedonia, as a starting point in the promotion of the bilateral parliamentary diplomacy.
President Xhaferi took the opportunity to reiterate his gratitude for the swift ratification of the Protocol for our NATO membership in pandemic conditions, an act that completed the accession process and the country became the 30th member of the Alliance. Regarding European integration, he informed the interlocutor about the conditions met by us, confirmed in the latest Report of the European Commission and expressed hope that the current obstacle on that path will be removed and that the country will finally start negotiations for membership in the European Union.
Ambassador Garcia also reaffirmed the good relations between the two countries and expressed confidence that he will work diligently to overcome the deficit of bilateral meetings at all parliamentary levels. He expressed gratitude for the support that the Republic of North Macedonia gives to the Government of the Kingdom of Spain in the context of preserving its territorial integrity and sovereignty, by respecting the Constitution and laws, as fundamental principles of the rule of law. Regarding NATO and the European Union, the Ambassador expressed the clear and unequivocal support of the Kingdom of Spain and the commitment of the Spanish authorities in recent months for the start of the negotiations of the Republic of North Macedonia for membership in the European Union as soon as possible.
Both interlocutors agreed that the current good cooperation with the Spanish Embassy will continue in the direction of strengthening the inter-institutional cooperation, in fields of mutual interest for both countries.
