Political Leaders United to ensure that the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia leads the Euro – Atlantic Integrations  

The first edition of Jean Monet Dialogue with the Assembly was held in Ohrid on 17 and 18 May 2018. After a two day open and informal dialogue, the political parties reaffirmed the consensus work together and the state to progress to the Membership of EU and integration in the Euro – Atlantic Structures. 

Aiming to accelerate this process the political parties underlined that the Assembly has the most efficient role through the application of the overall democratic legitimacy, oversight role and legislative power, through initiation of series of reforms starting with the prompt determination on the adoption of the new Code of Ethics and implementation of urgent amendments of the Rules of Procedure. Also, the dedication of the overall revision of the Rules of Procedure was harmonized in order to ensure the more efficient, transparent and effective Assembly in meeting the expectations of the citizens for the EU accession.

The MEPs, Vajgl, Kukan and Flekenstein, mandated by the European Parliament, opened the dialogue underlining that it is an honour to work with the leaders and the political parties in the Assembly through the Jean Monet Dialogue and in the support of the reforms needed for the integration processes o the state. The political dialogue is the essence of each democratic process and they pleased to see the interest and the vigorous inclusion of all political partners in the process,  

The participants heard the strong messages of encouragements from the Commissioner Hahn and the Presidents of the two biggest parties in Europe: EPP and Party of the European Socialists.

Aiming to hold on to the momentum of the debated key reforms, the President Xhaferi announced the establishment of a Working Group in the Assembly comprised by the main political parties in order to support the implementation of the reform agenda and the next steps of the Jean Monet Process.  

The MEPs confirms that the reform agenda is fully supported by the European Parliament and the Committee on Foreign Affairs as well as the Delegation of the Joint Parliamentary Committee Jean Monet Dialogue contributes in the support of the Republic of Macedonia in the next steps of progress of the state towards the membership in EU, especially following the condition less recommendations by the EC and the oncoming decision of the Council.
