MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND MS SHARI BRYAN, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTE (NDI)

Today, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi had a meeting with Ms Shari Bryan, Vice President of the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

At the meeting, President Xhaferi welcomed Ms Bryan and expressed his satisfaction with the excellent cooperation with NDI and emphasized NDI's contribution to the Assembly through various projects and programmes. In this regard, he particularly emphasized the Parliament Support Programme funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation which supports the Assembly in its efforts for independence through capacity building for institutional development, consensus building, structural reforms, strengthening the legislative and oversight role of the Assembly, as well as its transparency and accountability.

Ms Bryan expressed satisfaction with the meeting and took the opportunity to congratulate President Xhaferi on our country's participation in the NATO Summit in London and the Assembly's efforts for institutional independence. She described the "Mountain Talks" for the independence of the Assembly Staff as successful and noted that the Parliamentary Support Programme is the most significant parliamentary programme NDI has had so far and can serve as a positive example for other countries.

President Xhaferi agreed that the "Mountain Talks" held in Berovo this year were successful and informed that the draft process for the provisions referring to the Assembly Staff which are to be incorporated in the Law on the Assembly was underway and would contribute to achieving independence of the Assembly staffers and improving communication and coordination with the executive power.

The interlocutors continued to discuss current and future cooperation, pointing out the Parliamentary Institute as a successful example of joint efforts.
