Parliamentary Leadership

Friday, 10 December 2021

Today, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia made a working visit to the Republic of Albania, where according to the scheduled agenda he met with his counterpart, the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, Ms Lindita Nikolla.

This is the second bilateral meeting of the two presidents, after their meeting in Athens, which is an undisputable proof that the Republic of North Macedonia and neighbouring Albania are two countries with sincere, intensive and friendly relations, without open issues between them.

The fact that we are two neighbouring countries on the same journey of the European integration process, anticipating the First Intergovernmental Conference with the European Union which will mark the formal start of the negotiations for a full membership in the European family, is another incentive and strong motivation to intensify and strengthen the cooperation among us.

The two interlocutors jointly stated that they have a lot to learn from each other and a lot of experience to share as countries and as institutions. There is a wide spectrum of cooperation, starting with the inter-parliamentary, then at the level of Speakers, Working Groups and Parliamentary Friendship Groups, but also at the intergovernmental level – in the field of culture, education, health and, probably the most attractive for the citizens, in the field of tourism. Certainly, good infrastructure connectivity is imperative for accelerated  progress of this cooperation, and the strong national ties are the best bridge to facilitate this cooperation.
