MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI AND THE ALL PARTY PARLIAMENTARY GROUP OF THE PARLIAMENT OF THE UNITED KINGDOM  

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski had a meeting with the Delegation of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, comprised of the Members of the Group for Cooperation with Macedonia: Karen Lumley, Stuart Andrew, Clive Betts and Gemma Doyle, as well as the Ambassador, H.E. Charles Edmund Garett. 

The interlocutors expressed pleasure from the meeting and concluded that this visit is another confirmation for the good relations and sincere friendship between the Republic of Macedonia and the United Kingdom, as well as willingness for future cooperation and support.  

The President Veljanoski underlined the excellent cooperation and the realized meetings with official representatives of the United Kingdom. The pleasure from the successfully realized project “Strengthening the Parliament and Democracy” was underlined.  

The meeting also referred to the topics of particular importance for the Republic of Macedonia -  the Membership in NATO and the integration in the European Union.  

The President Veljanoski underlined that there is a serious preparedness from the Republic of Macedonia for membership and integration as soon as possible, since it will result in higher economic prosperity and improvement of the situation for the citizens.  

Also, the President Veljanoski stated that he hopes and expects the support of the United Kingdom, in regard with the NATO Summit, which will be held in September in Wales.  

The meeting also referred to the absence of the opposition from the Assembly and the President Veljanoski expressed will to surpass all disputes and sincere wish for active participation of the opposition in the work of the Assembly.  

Ms. Lumley, as Chair of the Group for Cooperation with Macedonia underlined that the Republic of Macedonia remains high on their agenda and expressed her pleasure from the participation of the Macedonian troops in the peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan.  

Another topic of the meeting was the focus and the dedication on the economic development of the Republic of Macedonia, as well as the preparedness and the desire for finding a solution for the name issue.
