STATEMENT OF THE PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI ON THE OCCASION OF ANNOUNCING THE EARLY ELECTIONS FOR MEMBERS OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

Distinguished citizens,
Distinguished Representatives of the Media

I would like to inform you that in accordance with the Constitutional Provisions and the timelines of the Election Code, I am obliged, as a President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski to schedule early elections for Members of the Assembly.

Regarding the timelines the constitutional provision envisages that the early parliamentary election is scheduled within 60 days from the day of dissolution of the Assembly.

I have ratified the Decree on Early Elections for Members of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, which will be held on 27 April 2014, in other words in the same day of the second election cycle of the Election for the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski, if the President is not elected in the first election cycle.
The Decree on the Elections will be submitted to the State Election Commission, as authorised body for execution of the elections, as well to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice.

Similar to my previous statement, I would underline again that we are faced with an election process in which the rules are accepted upon an agreement of the governing and the opposition political parties, which is an additional responsibility for both and an obligation for them to respect and apply these rules during the overall process.

I would once again call upon all participants in the process for election of President of the Republic of Macedonia and Members of the Assembly, to be guided by the Constitutional and legal provision and to contribute in the peaceful and democratic atmosphere, in which every citizen can exercise the right to vote at their own conviction.

Thank you.
