Address by the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski on the Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

20 years ago, there were only 12 stars on the flag of the Council of Europe, and today- 47 countries, with over 830 million Europeans are Members of the Council. This means that the well known words of the grand statesman and European Winston Churchill – “We must genuinely create Europe” from 1946 came true. 20 years ago issues such as human rights and freedoms, parliamentary democracy, market economy were taboo for all of us on the other side of the iron curtain, these topics were just a facade covering the single party systems.

Speech by Mevlut Cavusoglu, President of the parliamentary assembly of the council of Europe on the Meeting of the Standing Committee

First of all, I would like to thank Parliament and, in particular, it’s President, for hosting this meeting of the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly in Skopje. Minister Milososki, your chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers has just started and we have already had an opportunity of working together. I welcome your presence today as a sign of your willingness to further enhance the cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly, and I think you for that. On our side, we are ready to give full support to your chairmanship and look forward to welcoming you in our Hemicycle during our June part-session

ADDRESS BY H.E. Antonio Milososki MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS at the Session of the PACE Standing Committee

It is my great honour to welcome you in Skopje and to address this distinguished forum in my capacity as the Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Chairing the oldest political organization in Europe presents a great challenge for me personally and for my country. There are many underlying reasons for these challenges, yet I will not dwell upon some of the obvious and at the same time unique ones. Instead I would concentrate on matters of interest for the Organisation.
